December – half way checkpoint/turn around

December 16th is the half way point.  Time to check in on the goals….
Running – Currently just over 48 miles.  Going to have to pick it up a bit to hit my 100 goal.  The past two days I have gotten in some hill training and interval training.  Since I have been stuck in the gym it was a good way to add a little variety to a treadmill workout.
Body Pump and Spin – I have gone every Tuesday, and even have gone to most Friday Body Pump classes.
Study AU 65 – Not quite half way.  I’m not too upset if I don’t get this one done.  There are much more exciting things to be doing then studying insurance.
Stay on budget – check – pretty darn good considering the holidays and wedding festivities.
Read two books for fun – 1 down, 1 to go.  And I will definitely have some time to read of flights and at home.  No problem getting this one.

I forgot to list one of the most important goals – fit into bridesmaid dress on Dec 31st.  So far so good.  Just got to keep it up because it is a little late to get it altered now J.

One week until I am Chicago bound!

Luck -

My name the first name drawn in the raffle today at our work holiday party, which led me to laugh about just how lucky I am, ask anyone in my family.  See a couple posts below where I wont the turkey.  Other examples in 2011 include the time I won the Brooks running shoes, or the time I was a winner in the Easter Egg Hunt, or (I could keep going for a long time).  Things tend to work out in my favor and I win a lot of contests, raffles, drawings.  Why and how does that happen?
There is a lot of Irish on my mom’s side of the family (Grandpa B is 100%) – Luck of the Irish?  And my dad is another one that wins a lot of different things.  So somehow am I getting my luck from both sides of the family???
What does the word LUCK really mean…so I did what any person would do and googled the definition of Luck (according to dictionary.com).
Luck-
1.      The force that seems to operate for good or ill in a person’s life, as in shaping circumstances, events, or opportunities:
2.      Good fortune; advantage or success, considered as the result of chance
3.      Combination of circumstances, events, etc., operating by chance to bring good or ill to a person
4.      Some object on which good fortune is supposed to depend
I also remember a quote by Samuel Goldwyn stating, “The harder I work, the luckier I get.”
What makes a person have good luck?  What makes a person have bad luck?  To the degree that we can control the circumstances in our lives we can control our luck, but many things are outside our control.  At that point do we just leave it up to the universe to decide?
I still don’t get how luck works in general, but I am very thankful for the luck/fortune that I have.  I am just going to keep doing what I am doing and see where it gets me.

December Goals –

Time to set some monthly goals…
1.      Run 100 miles
2.      Go to Body Pump and Spin class every Tuesday
3.      Read the first book for my AU exam
4.      Stay on budget
5.      Read two books for fun
The first couple weeks should be no problem and I am already off to a great start with the running mileage and the AU studying (it was a cold/rainy weekend so I stayed in).  The end of the month may be interesting.  I am at home (Illinois) from the 23rd to the 2nd.  When I am home, I don’t have a routine which tends to make me lazy.  I am determined not to have that happen to me this break!!  We'll see how it goes....Wish me luck!
