Weekly Recap: May 18th – May 24th

Monday – Lunch: Ran 3 miles.  Evening: Ran another 3 miles (25:22, 8:27 pace).  0.25 easy pace, followed by 0.50 miles fast, repeat.  Couple of planks and some leg press to finish out the day.

Tuesday – Off day

Wednesday – Lunch: 3 miles, humid and a dead iPod made for a tough run!  Group run: 4 miles!

Thursday – Lunch: 2 miles (18:09).  It was a progressive run starting at 6.3 mph and increasing it 0.1 mph every 0.25 miles.  Started at 6.3, ended at 7.0.  Short workout as I am slammed at work!

Friday – Lunch: 2 easy miles outside.  It was nice and cool with a slight mist.  Awesome running weather.

Saturday – Run 3 miles

Sunday – Happy Birthday to Me!  31 today and since I am not in Ultra Shape (50K – 31 miles),  I settled on a tenth of my age (5K – 3.1 miles)

Total miles: 23.1 miles

Getting in a lot of miles, but no long runs.  Gotta start working on that!  But that will have to wait until after KEY WEST!

Thinking Out Loud Thursday

·         Meet Jorge – a little bird that like to hang out above our garage.  With all the rain we have been getting I think he was just trying to find a place to hide.  He has been there for about the last 5 or so nights.  Mark built him a birdhouse (pic to follow)

·         My guilty pleasure as of late – enjoying the small things in life.

·         My car hit 100,000 miles.  Which is a big deal for me, considering it had just over 6,000 miles when I got it.

·         After my car hit 100,000 miles, I hit 100 miles with Run On.  So I get a fancy red t-shirt and my picture up on the wall.

·         Normally by May (in Texas) I have been wearing all my summer clothes, and confirming they still fit.  With all this rain, it’s been cooler than normal.  Guess I better get on it as I am heading to Key West on TUESDAY!

·         The best type of wedding.  Causal dress and BYOB – they had coolers of beer, but you could also bring your own.

·         Life - exactly!

Weekly Recap: May 11th – May 17th

Monday – Finally a good weather day!!!  No rain, slight breeze, and limited humidity.  Lunch: 3 miles.  Evening: another fantastic 3 miles

Tuesday – Lunch: 3 miles with the rain starting right as I hit my turn around (1.5 miles).  Rocked the drowned rat look the rest of the day at work.  Had to skip the gym in the evening because my clothes were soaked.

My evening consisted of some yard work – trying to fit it in whenever there is a break in the rain.  I cut the front yard, weed wacked, and sprayed for weeds.  I also repotted some plants.  We had these plants in small pots handing in the corner of the kitchen, but they were starting to die.  I think they were outgrowing their small pots and didn’t have the room they needed.  They may be too far gone to save, but I figured it was worth a shot, so I moved them to bigger pots outside to see if that would help.

Wednesday – Lunch: Ran 2 miles to beat the evening storms.  It ended up raining from about 1:30-4:30 and quit in time for us to do our group run.  It was a small group with the weather, but we went out for 4 easy miles.

Thursday – Lunch: Ran 2 miles

Friday – Rest Day.  Then out to celebrate Tracey and Darren’s wedding

Saturday – Rest Day

Sunday – Easy, humid 3 miles.  We got some crazy storms Saturday night that were shaking the house.  I jumped out of bed at one point to check and see if there was a tornado.  Thankfully no.  The evening was spent enjoying a cookout at a friend’s house.  Thankfully most of the storms have been in the evening and we can still enjoy the day.

Total miles: 20 miles.

Acai Bowls – My newest attempt at being trendy with food.

Several bloggers mention Acai Bowls.  What exactly there are (or how you pronounce Acai) is beyond me, but I decided to give it a whirl.  I know you can guy them at places like Jamba Juice, but what fun is that.  Recently, the Fitnessista mentioned a previous post she did on making your own Acai bowl.  Sold!

I did about the most basic bowl she mentions, and it turned out pretty good.  Pretty hard to screw up actually.

Base: Frozen acai packet, 1 cup almond milk, ½ banana.

I poured it over some granola, then added banana, raspberry, blueberries, and a bit more granola.

It made a way bigger serving than I was expecting and I actually broke it down into two snacks.  I also expected the base to be a bit thicker.

Weekly Recap: May 4th – May 10th

Rain, rain, go away
Come again some other day

Monday – Lunch: 2 miles.  Evening: 3 miles.

Tuesday – Work ran late, and I had a ton of life stuff to do (grocery shopping, etc), so I skipped the gym.  But I did manage a 3 mile walk before the rain came!

Wednesday – Lunch: 10 minutes on the elliptical.  Group run – 4 miles - followed by some Cinco De Mayo celebrating.  I made Heidi Powell’s Corn and Black Bean Salsa (minus the onions).  It went over pretty well!

Thursday – Evening: I ran 3 miles, then headed out to play 2 sand volleyball matches.  Man am I rusty!  But thankfully the guys I played with were super cool and fun!!  One thing I do not miss about sand volleyball is finding sand in my ears for days and all the mosquito bites!

Friday – Lunch: Ran 2 miles.

Saturday – Walked 2 miles

Sunday – Rest Day

Total miles for the week: 19

Not the most intense week of workouts, but at least I got up and moved 6 days this week!  Everyday has been raining or super humid - Mother Nature has been wreaking havoc on North Texas.  Just doing whatever I can fit in!
