Five for Friday

1.       Weekending – Independence 10K, bike ride and Nat Nat’s Birthday.  Independence 10K – Goal: Under 53.  That is not all that close to a PR.  Want a steady pace, to feel like I could keep going, and maybe even negative splits.  Then I am supposed to be going mountain biking with my friend Tracey.

2.      Cooking - I’ve kind of been in a rut with my cooking.  Still cooking all my meals (no frozen meals or anything), but I have been bored with everything.  Nothing sounds good or jumps out at me.  Yesterday I spent time looking at blogs for some more ideas.  I am going to try this Pan-roasted Chicken with Lemon-Garlic Green Beans and Potatoes.  I also found some home-made/clean chicken nuggets that I am thinking about trying.

3.      Perspective – life is all about perspective.  All of my Illinois peeps are talking about how hot it is up there.  Last summer was officially the hottest summer on record (beating out 1980) in Dallas – we had 40 straight days with temperatures over 100, and a total of 70 days with over 100 degree temps.  And I was training for the Chicago Marathon.  I know I am a cold weather wimp; just like they are hot weather wimps.

4.      Thoughts/prayers/good juju – seems like shit has been hitting the fan lately for a bunch of my friends.  Just a few examples.  GP fell and broke her hip on the 4th.  She was in so much pain, but didn’t want anyone to call 911 because she didn’t want to go to the doctor.  Stacey had gotten them Kenny Chesney tickets for Saturday and that is all GP has been looking forward to for months.  She is so upset that she is missing it.  GP is in surgery as I type.  Julie’s dad has been in the hospital fighting and aggressive infection.  Kathy has to go back for more surgery/work on her brain aneurysms.  So many people have been on my mind lately.

5.      Goofy – I have officially made my Goofy training plan.  I took a combination of Hal Higdon’s Intermediate II plan and my current race schedule.  I have a couple 15K (Sat) and Half (Sun) weekends that I think will be good.  Also, another friend from Texas said she signed up so I will have someone to train with.  It starts August 20th and is more than 750 miles.  Yikes!
